Our Mission
Despite having an abundance of water with around 24,000 km of rivers flowing through its fertile land, providing safe drinking water for everyone is a complex national problem of Bangladesh. High tidal surges of frequent and severe cyclones and flooding resulting from climate change are contaminating most of the freshwater sources like ponds and shallow tube-wells with polluted saline water. Climate change also causes decreased water level in the summer resulting in drought and dry spell. The ponds of fresh water dry out and cause severe water scarcity. Lack of access to a well or water point make people turn to the traditional unprotected water sources such as ponds or ditches, or walk to distant wells. These practices dramatically increase the risk of acute bacteriological contamination, leading to greater outbreaks of water-related diseases. These diseases largely affect children who are especially vulnerable to diarrheal diseases.
One of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals is dedicated to ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030. Based on this, Bangladesh’s strategy to address the water and sanitation problem is to sharply expand public services while also encouraging private supply according to its Perspective Plan 2041. According to the Ministry of Public Health there is one safe source of water for 85 people. There should be at least one safe source of water within 500 feet of a house and this is ensured for 85% cases. The rest of the population still struggles for safe drinking water.
With the dedication to make a supplement contribution to the government policy for optimizing uses of water resources Rishilpi’s mission is to ensure safe drinking water for the people at the risk of water shortage and water contamination / suffering from the lack of safe drinking water sources and help make a healthy and sustainable world.
